Why iPhones are too expensive?

Conventional thinking among Android fans and Mac users alike says that iPhones are far too expensive to justify the expense.

The phones themselves are clearly a nice piece of equipment, but each one is a bit of an investment.

For most people, it's more cost-effective to get an older, lower-priced phone with modest specs and lower-resolution screens, as Apple does with the iPhone SE or iPhone 6.

With smartphones increasingly doing double duty as a smartphone and a computer (even on a single charge), the extra features of the latest models (like the camera and extra screen real estate) are really nice to have.

But if you're not using those features that much, they're really not that expensive. On the other hand, you don't have to spend $1,000 to get a decent 4K HDR TV; just about any old set will work for the most part and still look good. No matter what smartphone you buy, you're going to have to spend a small fortune on service and accessories. So you're better off getting something relatively inexpensive but that you can swap out when the hardware gets old. In many cases, people are looking at a few hundred dollars per phone over the course of a few years — and that doesn't include extra accessories like cases and chargers.

While you can swap out cheap smartphones for much cheaper models when they're new, it's a lot harder to fix an expensive device when it's already outdated and has stopped working. For some people, that's not a big deal. But in the case of a large family of smartphones, it can add up fast. The best way to decide what phone to buy is to consider your usage patterns and budget, and then buy something that will handle that. Will I really get as much use as I expect?

In general, smartphones are a fantastic tool. When you put them to work, they make your life much more convenient and enjoyable. But sometimes we use them in ways that make them less effective as a phone. Many people use phones just as they use their laptops, which means spending a lot of time using them to watch movies and TV shows and surfing the web.
