What's the issue with GTA V and Nintendo?
The Nintendo Wii U was designed to be used with a television, not a tablet or smartphone. But people have found ways of using their Wii U tablets and smartphones to "hack" into the software running on the Wii U and spy on their neighbours.
One method involves installing a program called "WiimoteWaterGoesHere" and leaving the tablet close to a Wi-Fi router, just like one of Rockstar's open-world games. Once in the game, the tablet intercepts private information sent to a Wii U's online service and transmits it back to a spying software maker, which then sends the information back to people.
It's all nonsense and the hacking process is relatively easy. It's only a bit of fun to hijack Nintendo Wiimotes and install programs like WaterGoesHere, but it does highlight the dangers of relying too much on our devices and the potential for them to be used as spying tools.
It also demonstrates how insecure our entire society has become. As thousands of users have pointed out on Twitter, downloading a malicious program onto your Wii U doesn't make you any safer from other malicious programs that could infect your device.
